This project creates an audio drone based on data pulled from the City Of Melbourne’s 138 live pedestrian sensors across the CBD. This data is public and refreshed every 15 minutes. Each horizontal bar represents a sensor. Its colour shows how many people are passing the sensor. Each grouping of sensors is tied to a note represented by a sine wave. The density of pedestrians controls the volume of this note. The notes for all sensors are tuned to layer together to form a drone of sine waves with slightly imperfect tunings. There is one week of data visible at any one time. Scroll back through the last week to hear the sound of the city as it ebbs and flows.
